In the Mediterranean, protests are brewing against cruise ships, their flow of tourists and the pollution they generate in the big cities. In Marseille, these liners are responsible for 20% of nitrogen oxide emissions, a pollutant causing respiratory illnesses. Venice banished them to protect its lagoon. In the other ports, inhabitants would like to imitate it. They have formed a coalition to try to limit this mass tourism.
