In the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv, explosions have been heard and air alarms have been sounded late Wednesday night.
The authorities have urged the residents of Kyiv to seek shelter from the Russian airstrike.
Mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko says that the city’s air defense systems opened fire and destroyed one Russian plane.
In addition, he says that the rescue service has started clearing work in the area where scrap from the destroyed airplane had fallen.
