One student had brought hot chips to school and distributed them to at least 30 people during recess.
A total of 14 Japanese students were taken to hospital on Tuesday after they ate really spicy chips.
According to the media, the incident happened in one of Tokyo’s high schools. According to the AFP news agency, one of the students had brought hot chips to school for fun and distributed them to his fellow students during recess. At least 30 people tasted the chips, the Japanese Fuji channel reported.
According to AFP, the student who brought the chips had eaten them before and knew they were really hot.
Shortly after the break, some of the students started complaining of nausea and pain in the mouth area. One of the students was so unwell that he was transported to treatment in a wheelchair.
The manufacturer of the fiery chips has not commented on the incident, but according to AFP, the manufacturer warns on its website that the fiery chips can cause pain and are not intended for people under the age of 18.
