in his stronghold of Tourcoing, Gérald Darmanin takes a step towards 2027 and the working classes

in his stronghold of Tourcoing Gerald Darmanin takes a step

Gérald Darmanin is once again displaying his presidential ambitions in broad daylight. The Minister of the Interior stands as a bulwark against the far right in 2027. Visiting his stronghold in Tourcoing, in the north of France, he brought together around 700 people. Eleven ministers made the trip, as well as parliamentarians from the three parties of the presidential majority. Gérald Darmanin’s visit took place in the presence of Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne.

Everyone had a goal. That of Gérald Darmanin was to make a plea for the working classes, of which he wants to become the spokesperson within the majority. That is to say, French people who feel neither considered nor represented, and who have the strong feeling of not being able to live from their work, said the Minister of the Interior. Gérald Darmanin defended himself from any personal calculation and any disloyalty, while this political comeback was criticized even within the majority.

Facing him, Elisabeth Borne did not come to Tourcoing for nothing. The Prime Minister, who was not to attend the great back-to-school rout of her Minister of the Interior, announced yesterday afternoon in extremis that eventually she would be there. A reversal that is not trivial.

Elisabeth Borne has set the record straight. She notably asked Gérald Darmanin, like all his ministers, to be humble, to obtain visible results and above all, she called for unity, an essential condition for action. A unity of which she is the guarantor… Faced with the Minister of the Interior and her supporters in Tourcoing, Élisabeth Borne wanted to recall that for the moment, she is in charge.
