In games such as Skull and Bones, Riders Republic and Rainbow Six Siege, climate change and nature activities will now have to be tackled.
We have seen various methods of raising awareness about climate change in the world and the natural disasters that have been experienced frequently recently. It seems that from now on, the games will show itself in this direction.
The Playing for the Planet project aims to raise awareness of the environment and climate change through games. For this, the formation, which cooperates with big companies such as Ubisoft, SEGA, Rovio, Microsoft, Gameloft and Bandai Namco, has a game range that will cover almost every platform.
Players will have to deal with climate change and disasters
Flash forest fires will be added to Ubisoft’s Republic of Riders game as part of an event to be brought in July. In such a situation, players will be greeted by an orange sky covered with fire smoke, which is close to the real thing. While part of the map will be inaccessible due to fires, the characters will also be equipped with gas masks.
The goal is to arouse an emotional side to players by suddenly confronting them with unannounced in-game events. They will be “short and intense” thus evoking a moment of shock to be created.
Players will be expected to fight the fire and save the forest as soon as they encounter such an event. For this, players will first need to identify the most fragile and flammable areas in the nature park. Once the risk of fire spread has been assessed, it will also need to be mitigated through joint activities.
Skull and Bones, which is expected to be re-introduced soon, will similarly host disasters that can be encountered on the open sea. The leaked game will focus on the demand for sharks’ fins causing overfishing and the consequences. Players will have the option to contribute to the conservation of marine wildlife and understand the destructive nature of the shark fin trade.
In Rainbow Six Siege, Trackmania, Subway Surfers, Pac-Man, Asphalt 9 and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, new in-game modes, extra DLCs or competitions will contribute to forestation efforts and draw attention to this issue in 2022. Similar activities are likely to spread to popular games.
