A little more than two weeks after Hurricane Helene and four days after Hurricane Milton hit the southeast of the United States, Joe Biden traveled to Florida on Sunday October 13. Joe Biden spent Sunday October 13 in the field. From Tampa to Saint Pete Beach, on the west coast of Florida, the American president flew over the areas most affected by Hurricane Milton which devastated the region just a few days after the passage of a first hurricane, Hélène, also destructive and deadly.
While part of the western coast of the Sunshine State is still under water, Joe Biden also traveled on foot and by car to areas where rescue teams are still trying to clear the large quantities of debris accumulated by the effect of the violent winds.
An envelope of 610 million dollars released
After speaking with local authorities and meeting victims, he spoke a few words to the press. In his speech – very short and sometimes confusing – the American president announced that his administration would release more than 610 million dollars to help the inhabitants of devastated regions. He also took the opportunity to call on members of Congress to shorten their vacations in order to release new aid for the victims of Hélène and Milton. But the hypothesis was immediately dismissed by the leader of the Republican majority in the House of Representatives who explained that he wanted to wait until the end of the estimate of the extent of the damage before taking measures in this direction.
