The bad week continues for Manchester City, Pep Guardiola’s team, eliminated on Wednesday by Newcastle upon entering the League Cup. The Premier League leader lost his first points this season, with an unexpected 2-1 defeat at Wolverhampton on Saturday, during a 7th day of the Premier League. The Citizens had so far made a perfect start to the championship with six victories in six matches. This first misstep allows Arsenal, easy winner of Bournemouth (4-0), to come back to just one point behind the current leader, eight days before their clash at the Emirates. City could by then have lost their first place, in the event of a victory for Liverpool early Saturday evening at Tottenham. Arsenal have prepared well for their trip to Lens on Tuesday in the Champions League, like Newcastle, 2-0 winner of Burnley four days before hosting Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday in the big European Cup. Manchester United for their part plunged again on Saturday, losing 1-0 at home against Crystal Palace, four days after dominating the Londoners 3-0 in the League Cup. The Red Devils’ fourth defeat, a week after a timid improvement against Burnley (1-0), places them in 10th place in the championship.
