In Egyptthe court decision was not taken following a request from people placed on the list of terrorism. It was the general prosecutor’s office which made the request, justifying it by the fact that ” the persons concerned and after investigation no longer engaged in reprehensible activities “.

These are 716 people who, among thousands of others, were placed on the terrorism list after President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi came to power. These lists deprived those who appeared on them of their civil rights and the possibility of managing their property. These are mainly Muslim Brotherhood or related as well as sympathizers.

This decision led many analysts to wonder if this did not bode well for reconciliation with the moderate branch of the brotherhood. This reconciliation could separate the Muslim Brotherhood within from those, more activist, in the diaspora.
