It is an unexpected project that was born in Clichy-sous-Bois, the poorest city in France, located in Seine-Saint-Denis. The Ateliers Médicis, an international cultural center, opened in this city which saw the birth of the 2005 riots, after the death of two young teenagers, Zyed and Bouna, who were electrocuted while trying to escape police control . After the riots, which highlighted the social malaise in the suburbs, the elected officials changed course. They want to bring culture back to popular neighborhoods. It’s done, in 2018, with a first building which hosts artist residencies, concerts, workshops… In 2025, a new building of 5,000 m² and six floors, with concert halls, carpentry and sewing workshops , should see the light of day.
