In Chad the desires for justice of the Civil Society

Launched on Friday March 4, this new coalition formed around Jacqueline Moudeïna, the lawyer who notably defended the victims of the Hissène Habré regime. She promises to defend the citizens against security abuses and human rights violations that Chad has experienced since 1990 and again recently with the tragedies that occurred in Sandana and Abéché.

To fight against people close to power who believe that everything is permitted. This is the commitment of the new Coalition against impunity in Chad. “ We have had massive and constant crackdowns on human rights violations. Each organization worked alone. And now we said to ourselves, since these repressions continue, we will have to come together to be stronger, to be better heard, rather than working alone. », Explains Jacqueline Moudeïna, the president.

Around the lawyer, six civil society organizations have joined the coalition as Human Rights Without Borders. All say they are determined to document human rights violations and crimes since 1990, when Idriss Déby Itno, now deceased, came to power. Their goal: to bring his cases to justice. ” One thing we seek to do is to identify people so that our complaints do not target corporate bodies or groups of people. But we want to identify these people so that our complaints are personal complaints. »

Particularly in the sights of this coalition, the circulation of weapons of war in the provinces. A disarmament program has been launched by the Chadian authorities, but it is deemed insufficient by the Coalition, which believes that arms traffickers go unpunished in Chad.
