For 24 hours, the affair has fueled speculation and ignited social networks. According to a document dated two weeks ago, the Air Force asked the defense attaché at the United States Embassy in Chad to “ stop all activity immediately » on the Kosei air base in the city center of the Chadian capital.

With our correspondent in Ndjamena, Carol Valade
The letter is dated April 4 and signed by the Air Force Chief of Staff. It can be read that “ the Air Force asked the US defense attaché to immediately stop US activities at Kosei air base “, for lack of being able to ” provide documents justifying their presence “. According to the American channel CNN, the Chad would even threaten to cancel the status of forces agreement which regulates their cooperation.
Nothing is currently known about the events that led to this escalation. But concern is evident on the United States side, barely a month after neighboring Niger severed military cooperation with Washington. If the most alarmist are quick to announce a change of alliance, which nothing has confirmed, other analysts see it rather as a way for Ndjamena to raise the stakes by taking advantage of its position as the last ally of the West in the Sahel.
Neither the Chadian government nor the United States Embassy in Chad responded to our requests.
