The heat is testing Europe and the United States, while heavy rains are ravaging South Korea and India.

In the United States, the temperature is being monitored, especially in California’s Death Valley – the mercury may even rise on Sunday to 55 degrees Celsius. At that time, it would be a heat record in the entire history of measuring the Earth.

According to the National Weather Service, the temperature in Furnace Creek in Death Valley will rise to 53.8-55 degrees.

However, the heat record in the measurement history is controversial. The official record announced by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is 56.6 degrees Celsius measured in Furnace Creek in 1913. Several researchers have questioned the official heat record, and alternatively the heat record is 54.4 degrees measured at Furnace Creek in July 2021.

According to Reuters, authorities in the United States warn that the severe heat wave will continue until next week. Temperatures are predicted to rise to over 40 degrees Celsius in several states on Saturday.

Heat warnings have been issued for at least Florida, Texas, California and Washington states, where a total of 113 million Americans live.

Helleaalto also arrives in Europe

A new heat wave will also arrive on the European continent at the beginning of next week and several heat records may be broken, the European Space Agency ESA warns.

ESA monitors land and sea temperatures via satellites.

The space agency anticipates the BBC according to which record temperatures can be measured during the next week in Italy, Spain, France, Germany and Poland.

For example, Italy’s heat record, 48.8 degrees, was measured in Sicily in 2021.

Sweltering heat has also been reported in Greece and is expected to continue. On Friday, the Acropolis of Athens was closed due to high temperatures.

Heavy rains in South Korea and other parts of Asia

Heavy rains are hitting South Korea for the third day already.

At least seven people have died and several have been injured as a result of landslides caused by heavy rains, the news agency Reuters reports.

In addition, more than 7,000 people have been evacuated.

On the night before Saturday, more than 800 people were evacuated after a dam overflowing its banks caused severe flooding in Chungcheong province.

Prime minister of the country Han Duck-soo has ordered soldiers to help in the rescue work.

In India, for example, the annual monsoon rains have also caused floods.

Delhi’s rainfall has been 91 percent higher than normal during the rainy season that began on June 1, according to Reuters. It has rained 309 millimeters in the area since the beginning of July. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, this is the highest rainfall in at least 12 years.

There have been deaths in floods and landslides in the Delhi region and the rest of northern India at least 91 people.
