Since October 1, nearly 2,000 people have managed to reach the English coast by crossing the Channel on makeshift boats. Crossings which also cost the lives of two men, a woman and a baby in the month of October alone. While waiting for favorable weather conditions, hundreds of them are surviving on the streets on the coast of Nord-Pas-de-Calais before the green light from the smugglers.
What happens to those who, after a shipwreck, after an injury, can no longer attempt to cross the Channel? What happens to those who, faced with the violence of the border, end up changing their minds? It is to meet this specific need that La Margelle house was born in Calais two years ago. Around fifteen people can be accommodated there while waiting for their administrative situation to enable them to find accommodation.
