In Brussels hooded men pulling Kalashnikovs create panic

Shots were fired this Wednesday morning in front of a Brussels metro station. The police are looking for suspects.

It is the amazement in Brussels this February 5, 2025. The police are actively looking for several suspects who fired this morning around 6.15 am in front of the Clémenceau station. For the time being, the investigators have not given elements to the press on the identity of the suspects, but RTBF has put online images of surveillance cameras, showing two men armed with heavy weapons, of the Kalashnikov type.

The two men, hiding on the head, fortunately injured anyone, but managed to flee by the metro tunnel. The RTBF reports that the place where the gunshots were fired is a point of drug deal. The Belgian media writes that “given the attitude of the suspects, the hypothesis of an attempt to set up a account or intimidation in the industry is plausible, although it is not confirmed at this stage” .

“The Brussels-Midi police and the Federal Railway Police are carrying out research in the area. There were no injuries during the shooting,” said the spokesperson for the police. Traffic has been interrupted on several metro and tram lines, between the Strôme and Gare de l’Ouest stations, said the Bruxelles intercommunal transport company, “on police orders”. This led to panic and a metros traffic paralysis on an important part of the small belt of the Belgian capital.

The suspects seem to be young and inexperienced. Several experts in handling weapons, contacted by RTBF, believe in view of video surveillance images that individuals handling these “Kalashnikov” type rifles lack training, “which makes them both imprecise and dangerous”.
