In brief fatal ATV crash south of Petrolia wheat field

A section of Oil Heritage Road south of Petrolia was closed Saturday following a fatal crash, Lambton OPP said.

The road was closed between Shiloh and Courtright lines around 2:30 pm and reopened about six hours later, police said on Twitter. A request for more information Sunday was not immediately returned.

One person on Twitter said a man and a woman riding an ATV were pronounced dead at the scene after a collision with a pickup truck, but police were not able did not confirm this.

FIELD FIRE NEAR WYOMING

Around the same time, the Petrolia and North Enniskillen fire department was battling a large fire in a field on Churchill Line east of Wyoming.

The blaze was in a wheat field in the 5000 block of Churchill Line, the fire department said in a Facebook post.

“Crews spent most of the afternoon in the summer heat dealing with this one,” the post said.

Temperatures were above 30 C Saturday as the region was in a heat wave.

The same area was also hit hard by Wednesday’s storm.
