We have just received the sad news that American actor Mark Margolis has passed away. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Margolis died Thursday at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City after a short illness. He was 83 years old. As Hector Salamanca he has played one of the most iconic series characters of recent years in Breaking Bad and the spin-off series Better Call Saul.

Mark Margolis was born on November 26, 1939 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Fanya and Isidore Margolis. After graduating from school, he attended Temple University there for a short time. However, he did not graduate. Instead, he moved to New York, where he founded the renowned acting workshop Actors Studio attended and was trained as an actor.

He made his film debut in 1976 in The Opening of Misty Beethoven, where he had a unfortunate man played. However, since it was only an extra role, he did not receive any credits. In the years that followed, he was nevertheless able to land various supporting roles, including in Scarface and Cotton Club. He was also seen in the series The Equalizer for 16 episodes in the 80s.

As of 2009, Hector Salamanca became the defining name of his acting career.

In a total of 30 episodes (8 on Breaking Bad and 22 on Better Call Saul), Margolis appeared in the series hype that defined the 2010s. At the same time, he was Guest star in series like The Affair, Gotham, Constantine, Elementary and Snowpiercer. The last entry in his filmography is the 2nd season of Your Honor, a legal series starring Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston.
