In Baldur’s Gate 3 you can play a mad murderer who is so evil that even evil NPCs fear you

Larian Studios is currently working on Baldur’s Gate 3 (Steam, PS5), the highly anticipated sequel to the famous RPG series. The latest info on the RPG is interesting, but also quite… disturbing.

What is Baldur’s Gate 3?

  • The Baldur’s Gate series consists of several classic turn-based role-playing games. They are based on the famous pen and paper Dungeons & Dragons.
  • The third part revolves around the eponymous city Baldur’s Gate. You yourself play a group of adventurers who can complete assignments and experience many things together.
  • The core of the game is a deep story, relationships and romances but also fights with villains and traditionally different endings, depending on how you decide.
  • This is new now: In a new stream, the developers presented the last “Origin”. These are pre-made characters that you can play as an alternative to creating your own. Origins have their own stories that you can discover throughout the game.

The last of these origins is called “The Dark Urge”, something like: the dark desire and is actually not a character at all. Strictly speaking, you’re just playing a parasite planted in someone’s brain.

You can freely choose race, class, gender and appearance. Only one thing always stays the same: you play an insane, bloodthirsty murderer whose top priority is to slaughter as many people as possible. No matter who, no matter where, the main thing is to kill.

MeinMMO Editor-in-Chief Leya Jankowski was live at the event in Belgium when the character was introduced and was able to speak to the bosses. In the interview, the developers explained that The Dark Urge can become so evil that even your worst companions no longer want to have anything to do with you. You can read the interview here on MeinMMO over the next few days.

Sex with bears… or something like that

Other topics covered in the stream included the last remaining antagonist and some in-game diversity options. Orin the Red is a shapeshifter whose goal is to bathe Baldur’s Gate in blood. Suitable for the new character.

When it comes to diversity and inclusion, Larian has gone a little… far. First the positive things:

  • Customization options like heterochromia, freckles, skin tones and more are at play.
  • In addition to the “standard” appearance of heroes, you can also customize the appearance using an age slider.
  • There’s also the option to play more heavily built characters, similar to the controversial druid in Diablo 4.
  • It then becomes questionable when it comes to romance. Traditionally, an important feature in role-playing games is the ability to choose a partner. In Baldur’s Gate 3 there should be very few limits here.

What is particularly emphasized, however, is that shape-shifters will definitely be an option as well. Also, if you’ve always wanted to cuddle with a guy who can literally turn into a bear, you should have the opportunity to do so. I’ll leave that at this point.

When will Baldur’s Gate 3 be released? After a surprising report, it is now clear that Baldur’s Gate 3 for the PC will be released on August 3rd. However, it has been in Early Access since 2020.

The PS5 version will appear a little later, on September 6th. You can either play alone or in co-op with friends. There’s even a sort of master mode that lets you create adventures for a group. We have already tested the game for you in multiplayer:
