The man attacked five passers-by in Villach, Southern Eomite on Saturday afternoon.
The Austrian police are reported.
At least one person, a 14-year-old boy died in the attack. In addition, four passers -by were injured. Two of them were seriously injured.
A bystander food messenger interrupted the knife attack by driving a knife on his vehicle. The driver was slightly injured.
Police said the suspect had arrested a 23-year-old Syrian asylum seeker.
Villach is located in the southern part of Austria near the Italian and Slovenian border.
So far, the motive is unclear. Police spokesman Rainer Dionio Said on Saturday night that police are currently investigating the background of the attacker.
