After the economic crisis in Afghanistan worsened, 24 million Afghans already need humanitarian aid and almost as many suffer from an acute food shortage, the World Food Program WFP has estimated.

The economic crisis has worsened since the Taliban took over Afghanistan in August 2021. Afghanistan had been dependent on foreign aid for 20 years. With the sanctions against the Taliban, most of the aid has stopped.

In many families, children are afraid of freezing to death. The mother of five children says in the video that the family has nothing to burn to heat their home.

In the children’s hospital in Kabul, infants who have contracted pneumonia as a result of malnutrition and cold are treated.

Afghans give the British Broadcasting Corporation BBC’s (switching to another service) even bring sedatives for their hungry children to make them sleep.
