It is important to have enough millers in the province, says Eelco van Norren, chairman of the Gilde van Molenaars. “It’s a great profession. But many new people remain needed if we want to keep the mills,” he explains.

“A mill is a living monument. It’s about craftsmanship. If you want to see mills in the area for the next 500 years, you have to pass it on.” In addition to maintaining, a mill must also be run. Otherwise the state of the mill will deteriorate. “Someone is needed to serve it,” says Van Norren.
