The MMORPG Tarisland has quietly changed its descriptions after being confronted with Pay2Win allegations. According to the official statement from the development team, Asmongold went looking for clues and took a look at the case himself. His reaction is available in a YouTube video.
Why were there allegations against Tarisland?
The development team then released a statement saying that they wanted to be more careful with future monetization descriptions. They also admitted that their understanding of Pay2Win would differ from that of players.
There was no direct statement on how the items from the in-game shop will continue and whether there will be more such items in the future. Instead, the development team left it with the vague wording.

Asmongold looks for clues in the YouTube video
The well-known streamer and YouTuber Asmongold is very familiar with other games in the genre. For example, he is a veteran of World of Warcraft, which has many parallels to Tarisland.
In his video he shows that the description of Tarisland has actually changed. Previously it was said that it was a “non-P2W” MMORPG. Now, for example, the Twitter account says that it is a “classic” MMORPG.

However, he admits that it’s no lie that you can’t invest real money directly in the in-game shop for items with benefits. Finally, the step in between is that players have to buy crystals with real money.
Asmongold jokes that he wants to invest $1,000 in the game. He wants to test whether there is really something to the allegations and whether his character will improve as a result. Asmongold is all the more shocked when he actually discovers items in a video that give advantages such as more attack power. He realizes that this is really Pay2Win.
Another example is the “CBT Benefits Card”. The card gives a player 3,000 gold but costs $4.99. In the eyes of Asmongold, this is also Pay2Win.
But according to Asmongold, this is part of the practice in many video games. There would be poor people and rich people. The rich people, also called “Wales”, would have an advantage in life, just like in Tarisland. The poor people, whom he symbolically calls “plankton,” would just lose out.
This phenomenon occurs, among other things, in games with gacha mechanics such as Genshin Impact. Here whales invest several thousand euros for certain characters. But things get particularly perfidious in games like Tarisland because the whales can take part in PvP and thus take away the fun from other players who don’t invest that much money.
It would also be enough to be a whale once and invest a lot of money. This would result in a pyramid scheme that would give you lasting advantages. In the end he also comes to the conclusion that Tarisland was unable to keep its P2W-free promise.
This procedure also reminds Asmongold of Diablo Immortal: Twitch streamer always criticized Pay2Win, spends €320 on the 1st day Diablo Immortal – now has a problem
