In a tough race against Crota, Elysium takes their 4th World’s First title

When in Destiny 2 the World’s First race in the raid “Crotas Ende started, many reckoned it wouldn’t be long before the first players crossed the finish line in what was considered a strike raid. But it was really a tough competitive mode that made it exciting for everyone. Destiny Editors tell you how long it took and who took the win.

What raid race is it? Last night, the old Destiny 1 raid “Crota’s Ende” celebrated its comeback in Destiny 2. It started at 7:00 p.m. and Bungie had changed a lot, especially in the difficulty level of the raid.

  • Crota and his Encounter turned out to be a tough race that caused excitement for everyone involved, including the spectators.
  • The winning team had to defeat the Crota’s Ende raid twice, once in competitive mode and a second time in challenge mode, which wasn’t all that easy.
  • The leading teams failed several times and the difference between first and second place was only 1 minute and 5 seconds.
  • However, at 1:03 am Bungie announced, “Like father, like son. Crota’s reign is ended.”

Elysium secures 4th World’s First win in 2023

These are the winners: Saltagreppo and Clan Elysium earned their fourth World’s First belt by defeating Crota. This makes them one of the best clans in Destiny 2 history, winning Day One of Vault of Glass, Apprentice’s Oath, King’s Fall, and now Crota’s End.

They were only defeated by the “Hard in the Paint” clan in the “Root of Nightmares” raid in 2023.

How long did the raid last? Amazingly long. Many a player had expected a fast race, since the raid was not considered particularly challenging. But Bungie wanted to try out how tough a day-one raid can be. And so the race became challenging after all.

The winning team crossed the finish line at 00:51, taking 5 hours and 51 minutes to defeat Crota twice.

That’s how tough the destiny elite’s head-to-head race was

The Race for Crota was by far one of the most exciting raid races Destiny has seen in a long time.

  • It started promptly at 7:00 p.m. In addition to Clan Elysium with Saltagreppo, the Clan All the Players and Clan Math Class with Datto were also at the start. Datto had recently taken a break from Destiny but didn’t want to miss out on this revival and finally be victorious.
  • Before players even jump into the abyss, they found an ominous “Cup of Light”. Not the only change Bungie has made to this Destiny 1 raid.
  • At around 7:41 p.m., players realize that the knights on the other side in the bridge encounter are champions with huge health bars and that means “Welcome to Destiny 2 Crota!” All teams had to fight hard to stay alive.
  • Shortly before 21:00, the teams were then able to defeat Ir Yut after taking a long time to figure out how the encounter would play out. All the Players made it through first.
  • Meanwhile, Destiny 2 also drew a lot of attention on Twitch. After word spread about the excitement of the Crota Race, Destiny 2 topped Just Chatting and Starfield in Twitch viewership with 279,000.

However, the numbers still fell short of the World’s First of the brand new Lightfall raid Root of Nightmares from early 2023. At that time, 520,000 simultaneous viewers tuned in at the high.

279,000 viewers wanted to see how Crota does in Destiny 2 in 2023
  • After several teams caught up with Crota, it quickly became clear: the son of Oryx can now be damaged by more than just the sword bearer’s sword. After that, it was all about who did the most damage and who coordinated calmly and calmly as a team. At Elysium, with a well-established, experienced team that knows each other, that’s no problem.
  • All the Players as well as Elysium tried all possible DPS options with Linear Fusion Rifles, Rocket Launchers and the Divinity. In the further course of the race, however, Crota proves to be a tough boss. His health bar is amazingly high, and all teams are struggling to even get into the second damage phase. A brutal fight, but also a real competitive mode difficulty.
  • At 10:14 p.m., Clan Elysium defeats Crota in the last second and becomes the first team to orbit after the first competitive run.
  • Now the real challenge of the World’s First race began. Teams had to complete the raid again, completing a secret challenge in each encounter.

  • Team Elysium made an important discovery on their second visit to the bridge at around 10:32 p.m. as they muted their voice communications to prevent others from adopting their strategy. In the meantime, aTides and his team had also caught up with them with a mixture of the clans Sigh, Respire and Passion.
  • Around 00:00 Elysium was back with Crota. But they had problems. Not wanting to die, Crota fought relentlessly against the team. He also retained some of Destiny 1’s idiosyncrasies and teleported out of the team’s reach. Some things don’t change even in nine years. Her final boss fight failed twice, which made it all the more exciting. Because that gave the other teams time to catch up.
  • At 12:45 a.m., two teams were almost level. Elysium and Team aTides went head-to-head.
  • After almost 6 hours, the squad around Saltagreppo Crota won the final challenge at 00:51 and was a little more than a minute faster than aTides.
  • Bungie confirmed shortly thereafter at 1:03 a.m. that everything was fine, awarding Clan Elysium their 4th World’s First victory.
  • Congratulations to the team at Elysium on their impressive and entertaining victory in a tough race against Crota.

Here’s how long it took for other World’s First raids in comparison:

  • In “Garden of Salvation” 2019 the final boss fell after 6 hours and 13 minutes.
  • The Day One Raid 2021 to the “Glass Chamber” took 1 hour and 43 minutes.
  • It took 7 hours and 14 minutes for the March 2022 Witch Queen Raid Oath of the Apprentice.
  • Oryx, Crota’s father, was defeated after 5 hours in the King’s Fall Legacy Raid in August 2022.
  • The Lightfall raid “Root of Nightmares” in March 2023 was done after 2 hours and 25 minutes.
  • When does competitive mode end? All players who do not want to play the raid in competitive mode will have to be patient. Bungie will keep the mode activated for a total of 48 hours. So you can only play the raid in normal mode from Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m.

Nevertheless, the raid could also be interesting for some players in competitive mode, especially if you are pursued by the eternal bad luck of the loot god in raid exos. Because if you defeat Crota within 48 hours, you are guaranteed to own the new raid exo “Necrochasm” without any ifs or buts.

Anyone can get Destiny 2’s new Raid Exo, you just have to be good enough
