The colony simulation RimWorld will receive the fourth expansion “Anomaly” in April 2024. The developer promises many ideas that players will know from horror films: swaying masses of flesh, ghosts, parasites and madness will play a major role.
This is the situation:
Inspiration: The Thing, Cthullu and Cabin in the Woods
This is what we know about the new expansion: Anomaly will be a horror expansion to RimWorld that alludes to themes such as the Cthullu Mythos, “The Thing” or “Cabin in the Woods”.
The colonists would awaken a “Dark Monolith” and thus provoke an insane machine spirit that would now plunge their world into fear and terror:
When is all this coming? The expansion is supposed to come “in a month,” which would be a release date like April 11th. or April 18th.
In addition to the expansion, a new patch 1.5 will also be released.
Players will trust their colonists even less than they already do
This is what lies behind it: The developers of RimWorld use motifs from horror films and say so quite openly.
Cabin in the Woods is itself a meta-horror film that packs together the well-known monsters from countless other horror films.
Anomaly definitely sounds like a logical expansion for RimWorld that will expand the already great game in new, interesting ways.
Anyone who knows RimWorld can already imagine how the ideas will be implemented in the game: The developers are playing with the idea that the player can no longer trust their own colonists. You already know this: Because in RimWorld there are colonists with certain characteristics such as pyromaniacs or cannibals who regularly cause trouble if you don’t pay attention to them for two seconds.
With Anomaly, inattention could pay off when the unreliable colonist not only burns down the base or digs up and eats a few corpses, but then passes the alien parasite on to the next colonist.
