In a new series on Netflix, Thor messes up the wrong wedding and it ends in carnage

The god of thunder Thor is known for his hot temper, which often gets him into difficult situations. This time, however, he has drawn the wrath of the wrong person.

What is this about? It’s about Twilight of the Gods, a new series on Netflix with references to Norse mythology. The series is produced by Zack Snyder, who has made a name for himself as the director of several films in the DC universe. The French studio Xilam Animation is responsible for the animation.

What do we know about the series? It all started with a classic “meet-cute”: On a bloody battlefield, the warrior Sigrid saves the life of a king named Leif, after which the two fall in love and even want to get married.

A dispute ends in bloodbath

However, the Aesir gods do not like this wedding at all, and especially not Thor. He turns up at the wedding – uninvited, mind you – and starts transporting the wedding guests to Helheim. The couple survives, but Sigrid’s family succumbs to the wrath of the thunder god.

With a colorful troop of capable warriors and the support of Loki, Sigrid and Leif embark on a seemingly hopeless campaign of revenge against the Aesir. We also spotted the father of the gods, Odin, in the trailer, but we don’t yet know anything about his role in the whole mess.

There could be a lot here for fans of Norse mythology. It starts with Loki’s character design, which is clearly different from that of the Aesir. His descent from the Jötnar, the ice giants, could therefore play a larger role.

Which mythological creatures can also be seen in the trailer:

  • The Einherjar, the warriors of the Aesir
  • A giant snake – probably Jörmungandr, the Midgard Serpent
  • Several winged women, most likely Valkyries
  • Ulfsark, dressed in wolf fur, also fights on the side of the Avengers. He can also transform into a wolf, just as berserkers in fantasy settings can often transform into bears.

If you’re wondering how the author knows what an Ulfsark is, he simply played a lot of Age of Mythology as a child. If you’re not averse to real-time strategy games, the remake of this classic is definitely worth a recommendation: New strategy game on Steam makes players’ eyes water: “It was my childhood”
