The UN recorded 441 violations and abuses of human rights last February throughout the Congolese territory. The threshold of violations attributed to armed groups and security forces remains high, including the number of victims by summary and extrajudicial executions.

Overall, violations are down slightly, 3% compared to January 2023. According to the BCNDUH, the United Nations Joint Human Rights Office, this drop is explained by the halving of violations and violations of the right to physical integrity. The other reason is also the drop in the number of victims of sexual violence.
The report states that more than 80% of these violations and abuses were committed in the provinces in conflict in the East, in particular Ituri and North Kivu. The two provinces have been under a state of siege for nearly two years. More than half of these violations are attributed to armed groups and the rest to security forces.
But what worries the BCNDUH is the increase in the number of victims of summary execution. 19% more compared to January. He blames armed groups for the summary execution of 276 civilians, including 16 children. The security forces are accused of extrajudicial executions of 9 people, including two women.
This report has been sent to the Congolese authorities and the BCNDUH calls for the alleged perpetrators of the violations to be identified and brought to justice.
