In a new Harry Potter game you can prove whether you have what it takes to become a Quidditch World Champion

Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is the first video game in over 20 years to be released based on the fantasy sport that fans already know from the books and films.

What kind of game is this? Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is a sports game set in the popular fantasy universe of wizards and witches, developed by Unbroken Studios. It is only the second of its kind after the PS2 game “Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup” from 2003.

You can choose between simple exhibition matches and a career mode. Both game modes can also be played online with up to three friends. For the competitive players among you, there is also the option to compete against other opponents.

The game will be released on September 3, 2024 for the PS4/PS5, Xbox One/Xbox Series X/S consoles, as well as for PC on Steam and the Epic Games Store. A version for the Switch is also planned, but will come later.

The developers reveal more about the gameplay in a five-minute gameplay walkthrough, which you can watch here:

What does the trailer reveal? Your career begins with a self-created character in the courtyard of the Weasleys’ Burrow, where you have to win your first small tournament. Once you’ve done that, you’ll be competing for the World Championship. In addition to that, there will also be three other trophies.

Large selection, small price

You can decide for yourself whether you want to compete for Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw or Slytherin. Each house will have some well-known characters from the books and films on the pitch. Draco Malfoy, Cho Chang, Cedric Diggory and Harry Potter himself have already been confirmed.

There are still the four classic positions of hunter, seeker, guardian and beater. According to the developers, each role should have a unique playing style. However, the rules of the game have been slightly adjusted: catching the golden snitch no longer brings you victory, but at least it gives you a big point advantage.

Between games, you can improve both your players and their brooms. You get new abilities by using skill points, and brooms require special upgrade material. There is also a selection of different brooms, all of which are designed to feel a little different.

The developers have already stressed several times that there will be no microtransactions in the game. With a standard price of 29.99 euros on Steam, that’s quite a bargain, unless something changes in this promise.

For many fans, “Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions” will bring back old memories. At least that’s what happened to MeinMMO author Linda Knabe, for whom the nostalgic trip could become the game of the year 2024. But she can tell you the rest herself: The next Harry Potter game is pure nostalgia for me and maybe already my game of the year
