With Matrix Resurrections and Bill & Ted save the universe, Keanu Reeves has delivered two major sci-fi revivals in recent years. While he’s the melancholic action star in The Matrix 4, Bill & Ted is dedicated to an underrated sci-fi subgenre: the Time-travel comedy with a feel-good factor.
What started out as a goofy fun adventure over 30 years ago with Bill & Ted’s crazy journey through time comes to a head in the third part unexpectedly wise and touching conclusion.
This is what Bill and Ted Save the Universe is about: Bill and Ted are now in their 40s and both are fathers. Otherwise they haven’t changed much and are still trying to write the greatest rock song of all time – which was once prophesied to them. But then they receive a message from the future that the fate of the whole universe depends on the song. To save the world, they want to steal the song from their future selves.
Not only Bill and Ted, but also their daughters get caught up in a crazy time vortex, including emo killer robot and musician Kid Cudi. The real highlight of the film are namely Bill and Ted’s adult children Billie and Thea.

For one, the two are brilliantly cast with atypical star Brigette Lundy-Paine and horror film queen Samara Weaving (Ready or Not). They provide even more laughs than the original cast in their endearing idiocy. The both are detailed copies of their film fathers and imitate the acting of Reeves and Winter to perfection.
On the other hand, they enable Bill and Ted to surpass themselves in the role of father and to give the funny characters a new facet. In addition to youthful nonsense, there is thoughtfulness, midlife crises and, of course, parental problems and pride. But don’t worry: the nonsense outweighs the bad by faras befits a Bill and Ted film.
The sci-fi gem Bill & Ted 3 is for old and new fans alike
The late third part of the Klamauk series manages it, at the same time as the wacky original to remain faithful and to develop it further consistently. This is not only a lot of fun, it also ensures a cozy feel-good movie night. Long-established fans get their money’s worth and newcomers are drawn into the sci-fi film with the charm of the four main actors.
