For several days now, this new eight-episode detective series has been keeping Netflix subscribers in suspense. It is number 1 of the most watched series on the platform at the moment.
The ranking of Netflix’s currently most-watched programs varies each week depending on new releases put online on the streaming platform. And for several days, subscribers to the VOD service have been tempted by this thriller in 8 episodes. It is in first place among the most viewed series of the moment according to the ranking established by Netflix in many countries, and particularly in France.
Released November 28 on Netflix, Madness is a miniseries created by Stephen Belber. This thriller features a political journalist, Muncie Daniels, who accidentally witnesses a murder in the woods. Accused of the crime, he finds himself at the heart of a vast conspiracy and must prove his innocence, while at the same time an attempt is made on his life. Which forces him to reconnect with his estranged family and his past.
Borrowing codes from so-called “conspiracy” thrillers (in which the protagonist must thwart a massive conspiracy), Madness has all the ingredients to appeal to fans of action detective series like The Night Agentor those who like nervous thrillers like The fugitive (film with Harrison Ford released in 1993).
In the casting, regulars of the small and big screen will recognize Colman Domingo, nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor in 2024 for Bayard Rustin who also distinguished himself in Euphoria And Fear the Walking Dead. In the new Netflix series, he plays Gabrielle Graham (Twenties), Tamsin Topolski (What you wish for, Slow horses), Marsha Stephanie Blake (I’m your wife) and Deon Colre (Black-ish).
If Madness has aroused the curiosity of subscribers to the streaming platform to the point of becoming number 1, it largely divides between the conquered and the disappointed. If it is “one of the best Netflix mini-series in a while” for some X users, the series “annoys” several viewers, in particular because of the “unrealistic” decisions of the main character and holes in the plot . If you want to give the program a chance, eight episodes of Madness are available on Netflix.
