Disney+ puts online the new British series by Steven Knight, creator of “Peaky Blinders”. And beware, it promises to bang!
Since 2013, Peaky Blinders has imposed itself as one of the classics of the small screen. This British series which follows a family of criminals in Birmingham in the interwar period was praised for the writing of its characters, its cinematic staging and the interpretation of its actors. And good news for fans (and others): its creator, Steven Knight, signs a new program to discover in streaming.
The scriptwriter remains in the genre of historical drama by planting his intrigue in the post-industrial era of the East End Londonian., In the 19th century it follows this time the story of Hezekiah Moscow and Alec Munroe, two best Friends arrived from Jamaica in England. Hezekiah quickly finds himself fascinated by clandestine boxing fights.
His talent is spotted by Mary Carr, head of the Forty Elephants gang, who intends to exploit her talent for her own ends. But he quickly became the rival of a formidable veteran fighter, Sugar Goodson, who sees in this young boxer the embodiment of everything that can destroy the Empire he built.
This series is A Thousand Blows. In the casting, Steven Knight brought together several actors in the culinary drama The chefnamely Stephen Graham (Snatch, bodies), Malachi Kirby (Devils), or Hannah Walters (This is England). Erin Doherty, who also played Princess Anne in two seasons of The Crownis also in the casting, just like Francis Lovehall, seen in Death on the Nile, His Dark Materials And Masters of the Air.
Already scheduled in October at the BFI London Film Festival, this historic drama is currently made up of a single season of six episodes. Each lasts about an hour, which allows the Binge-Watcher the series in just one weekend. The first season of HAS Thousand Blows is broadcast from February 21, 2025.
