The series takes place in Brisbane, Australia in 1983 and revolves around the family life of 11-year-old Eli Bell (Felix Cameron). Because of his drug addict mother he has a difficult life.
Then stepfather Lyle (Travis Fimmel) helps Eli’s mother get clean and support the family financially with drug deals. After dealing with a drug cartel, Lyle disappears and Eli goes looking for him.
The story of Boy Swallows Universe is based on the semi-autobiographical bestseller * by Trent Dalton. The author’s mother and stepfather sold heroin when he was a child.
