From January 1, 2024, many everyday foods will no longer go to the checkout with your restaurant voucher card. What products can we still buy in supermarkets?
Doing your shopping and paying at the checkout with your restaurant voucher card has become very practical for the French. But this measure, established by the law of August 16, 2022 and put in place during the Covid-19 health crisis in an exceptional and limited manner, will end on December 31, 2023, recalls the Ministry of the Economy. Thus, from January 1, 2024, the restaurant voucher card will no longer allow you to purchase as many products in supermarkets. However, the ceiling which increased from 19 to 25 euros per day will remain unchanged in 2024.
What will we no longer be able to buy with our restaurant voucher card in 2024?
Concretely, the restaurant voucher card must above all allow employees to eat during their lunch break. It will therefore no longer be possible to buy foods that cannot be consumed immediately, mainly those that require cooking or preparation such as:
- rice,
- pasta,
- eggs,
- meat
- Fish,
- butter
- canned and frozen products,
- coffee, tea,
- sugar, flour.
“Until December 31, 2023, restaurant vouchers can be used to pay all or part of the price of any food product, whether or not it is directly consumable (meat, starchy foods, frozen products to cook, etc.) in accordance with in article 6 of the law for the protection of purchasing power” specifies the Ministry of Economy.
What else can you pay with your restaurant voucher card?
Products that are immediately consumable will remain included in this payment method. This mainly concerns foods that can be eaten on the go such as sandwiches and foods found in bakeries, prepared meals, fruits and vegetables, instant dishes and soups, salads, drinks.
Purchasing everyday products with their restaurant voucher card allowed the French to eat better and cope with rising inflation. Some regret that this measure could cause financial difficulties for people who have difficulty making ends meet, while others denounce the risk of junk food since the French will turn more to industrial products than to cooked and balanced meals. .
