Less mental load, more listening to their partner, increased purchasing power and innovation on a sexual level: here is a non-exhaustive list of what French women would like to improve their daily lives. At least that’s what a new Ipsos survey reveals, revealed ahead of International Women’s Day.
Produced for the weekly women’s magazine Maximag on the occasion of International Women’s Day which takes place on March 8, investigation focused on the concerns of French women and their priorities for the year 2024. Respondents were invited to express themselves on questions covering a broad spectrum of their existence: professional, family, romantic and (among other things) sexual. In their list of important topics, women place the health and that of their loved ones above all else: 59% of them say they are concerned about these issues. Next come the future of children or grandchildren (48%) and purchasing power (47%). Conversely, their love life, their work or even the quality of the environment in which they live come in very last place.
Yet these are precisely the areas in which respondents say they want to make the most change. Starting with their professional life: 20% of those questioned say, for example, that they want to change their daily life at work “totally” or to a large extent (21%). Overall, the areas for improvement cited by the participants have a direct link with salary. To the question “do you think you are adequately remunerated”, 55% of them answered “no”, compared to 35% who considered that this was “rather the case” and only 10% who answered a frank and massive “completely do”. This feeling of not being considered at its true value in the professional world is accompanied by criticism of progress in terms of professional gender equality: 56% of respondents consider this progress “unsatisfactory”.
But this desire for change also occurs in several areas of the personal sphere. Starting with their love life: 25% of French women do not feel listened to by their partner and almost two in five (39%) consider that the distribution of tasks is not equitable within their household. On the sexuality side, the majority say they are rather satisfied (60%). But beware of routine: 31% confide that they would like to try new experiences, while 36% aspire to a more active sex life. To the wise!
Survey conducted by Ipsos and its partner Sopra Steria for Maxi. 800 women aged 18 and over constituting a representative sample of this population were interviewed from December 14 to 18, 2023.
