But this is not a simple monochrome version with the color slider set to zero. Under the direction of colorist Masahiro Ishiyama, every shot in the film was completely color-corrected.

Director Takashi Yamazaki explained in a statement (via Bloody Disgusting):

Instead of just making it monochrome, one image at a time was edited. I had [die Coloristen] making adjustments using different matting as if they were creating a new film. What I was aiming for was a style that looked as if it had been taken by masters of black and white photography.

International Kaiju fans in Japan and the USA were able to see the black and white version of the film in cinemas in January 2024. From 1 August 2024 Now the rest of the world can enjoy the colorless monster for the first time on Netflix.
