He is also the one who saves Evey (Natalie Portman) from an attack by government agents – and then holds her prisoner. So the young woman is drawn into the masked man’s plan without meaning to: he wants to provoke a popular uprising on November 5th and blow up parliament to do so.

With its iconic look and controversial main character, V for Vendetta is one of the best comic book films of the 2000s. The politically ambitious “superhero film” was directed by James McTeigue after working together on The Matrix based on a script by the Wachowskis. The graphic novel V for Vendetta * was created by Alan Moore (Watchmen) and David Lloyd.
V for Vendetta may not have reached Marvel heights with its worldwide gross of $134 million in 2005, but as a film it still managed to leave its pop culture footprint. The fact that Natalie Portman had her hair shaved off in front of the camera and the Guy Fawkes mask was later adapted for political movements are just a few memorable moments that the sci-fi film left behind.
No sequel yet – but would V for Vendetta 2 be possible?
