The Russian opposition politician and journalist Vladimir Kara-Murza, who was sentenced to 25 years in a penal colony, has been taken to hospital. According to his wife, Jevgenija Kara-Murza, his lawyers have been denied access to him and she is concerned about his state of health.

Since September 2023, he has been serving his sentence in a high-security prison in Omsk in western Siberia. In May of this year, Kara-Murza was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for her previous columns in The Washington Post.
