Zelenskyj: “If Trump has time he can call me”
0:45
For two and a half hours, both presidents spoke with each other.
A defined ceasefire has been agreed between Russia and Ukraine, mainly regarding directing attacks against energy supply.
But during Tuesday evening, some differences emerged in the statements about the conversation published by the respective countries.

Among other things, the United States stated in an official statement from the White House and in a post by Donald Trump at Truth Social that Putin agreed to end with attacks against Ukrainian “energy and infrastructure”.
From the Kremlin, however, there is only “energy infrastructure”, which suggests a narrower goal, writes The New York Times.
The newspaper Newsweek has reviewed The respective statements from the United States and Russia and have found more differences in the perception of reality about what was actually found.
The White House emphasized the conversation as a step towards a total end of the war, writes the magazine.

Enormous meaning
Press secretary Karoline Leavitt says Trump and Putin agreed “that the conflict would never have begun and should have been terminated long ago with sincere peace attempts in good faith”.
The White House also stated that the two leaders committed to a number of steps towards a ceasefire, including starting “technical negotiations on a marine ceasefire in the Black Sea”.
According to Washington, Trump and Putin also shared the view that “Iran would never be allowed to get a position where you can destroy Israel”.
Leavitt also stated that an improved relationship between the US and Russia could mean “huge economic settlements and geopolitical stability when peace has been created”.

Swallower in the Kremlin
Kremlin’s version of the call was more reserved in its appearance, Newsweek writes.
Putin’s gratitude was emphasized to Trump for “his desire to contribute to the precious goal of ending the hostilities and loss of human life”.
But be sure to point out that the questions about the “root of the conflict” and “Russia’s legitimate security interests” need to be discussed.
The Russians write that they have agreed to stop “attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure for 30 days” without mentioning a possible ceasefire in any broader terms.
Ukraine’s role also differed significantly between both countries’ statements, Newsweek writes.

Putin took up the hockey
The White House stated that Ukraine is central to a peace process, but instead the Kremlin pointed to “the serious risks linked to the inability to be able to negotiate with the regime in Kiev, which repeatedly sabotaged and violated settlements”.
The Kremlin also stated that Donald Trump supported Putin’s idea to organize hockey matches in the United States and Russia between Russian and American players from the respective leagues NHL and KHL.
The White House said nothing about that proposal.
