On June 27, 2024, the servers from Archeage went offline forever. Really all? Well, at least the European and North American worlds. And that is exactly what opens an exciting option …
What is that possibility? When the Archeage servers were switched off last year, not all versions of the Free2Play MMORPG were affected. The Russian version of the game is still online today, and it has now received a surprising update.
In the update instructions from last week it says that the client version has been updated by Archeage (via archage.ru). One of the innovations is that interested players can download and play an official English version of the client via the official website now – for the first time since June 27, 2024.
The only alternatives for Archeage fans: switch to the private server of the MMORPG or wait for the successor Archeage Chronicles. Here you can see the first trailer for “Archeage 2”:

Why was Archeage important? The MMORPG from XL Games appeared alongside Wildstar and The Elder Scrolls online in 2014 and thus forms the end of a period that was initiated by WoW’s enormous success. Between 2005 and 2014 there were numerous exciting announcements and publications of ambitious online role-playing games. In 2015 a real drought phase started.
In this phase, Archeage could stand out from the competition because there were features that did not exist in western MMORPGs in the form – such as the race for the best land, securing a fortress and the dominance on the server and the mix of house construction, economy, PvP plus guilds.
What do I need to know about Archeage Chronicles? Archeage Chronicles should focus more than its predecessor on the western market and therefore offer extensive PVE and story content that can be mastered alone or with small groups.
According to the developers, the MMORPG should still rely on a player -controlled economy and the cooperation of players. Exploration of the huge world should also play an important role. And you can expect a revised combat system that is supposed to combine strategic depth with rapid action.
However, PvP elements and large-scale battles in the open world, which were temporarily considered, would like to be deleted. PVP should be available primarily in clearly stacked, competitive areas, for festivals and guilds. You also want to use a Buy2Play model without Pay2win, but with service elements.
