We saw the famous studios where the company made many games and we had the chance to play Immortals of Aveum, which will be released soon, for over 2 hours. In this content, we will share our first impressions of the game with you.

First of all, Immortals of Aveum takes place in a world filled with magic. A world has been established where the world can be changed with magic and its users can master these spells. This world was almost shattered by a great war called Everwar, in which five different nations faced each other. At the end of this war, there are two surviving nations. The first of these is Lucium. This nation, which is also our home, is also the center of the Immortals, the Immortals, which is the name of the game and consists of elite mage warriors.

The Rasharn nation led by Sandrakk, which we can call the main villain of the game, is portrayed as a nation that has been at war with us for years. In other words, the effect of political events in the background on the game is quite large. Already in the gameplay part, there are signals that there may be some surprises about the story. Incidentally, the production team did a meticulous job on cutscenes. I especially liked the part about the Everwar war.

We control a character named Jack in the game. Jak is actually a character who grew up on the streets but was taken to immortals when his potential was discovered. His potential is that he can use all three types of magic. Normally, Immortals can only master one, while good ones can master two different spells. The number of those who use the three spells is quite small. Therefore, in this adventure that we started as a rookie, you feel the expectation in the character. Jak paints a character portrait who tries to prove himself and therefore can act impulsive from time to time.

Speaking of spells, the place of spells is very important in the world of Aveum. As I mentioned at the beginning, the wars that have already been fought and all were made to seize this magic power. When you look at the world in general, you physically see that magic like a network connection with cables surrounds the whole world.

There are three different types of magic that we can use in the game. Spells are divided into three as Blue, Red and Green. For blue magic, we can actually make an analogy of a machine gun-like, ranged weapon. Green magic, on the other hand, has a more SMG, Uzi style use. It does less damage, but you can close this gap by shooting fast. Red magic is very effective on melee hits and crowded enemies. It kind of works like a shotgun.

Of course, although spells work this way in the first place, you also realize that they have different uses with the updates you make and the new equipment you get. For example, the red magic you use like a shotgun turns into a bomb thrower when you develop it. When you hit the opponent, you see that it explodes and deals area damage. In this way, the production team has placed the update and equipment system in the game in a more important place.

An ultimate-like skill system is also included in the game. Moreover, as you progress, you unlock different abilities in this regard. Here, you can send boulders flying upwards from the ground to opponents, or you can create many waves by opening your hands. Especially against crowded enemies, these special abilities do a great job. You can liken this system to the special abilities we assign to numbers in RPG games.

Apart from spells, we also have some features that add color to the battle system. I am not sure if the number of these will increase in the future, but one by one, these features are listed on the left side of the hud screen. Our first feature is a whip. Thanks to this whip, you can pull distant enemies closer and cause them to take more damage. We also have a laser with which we can hit the weak spots of enemies and special equipment that throws a green jelly that slows them down.

This green jelly offers interesting solutions both in battles and in puzzles. Yes, a puzzle structure is also included in the game. You open doors by hitting the red, blue or green markers that are usually hidden on the playing field with the relevant magic. But there are more different puzzles in the game. For example, when you fire a button again, you see that a huge block opens quickly, but immediately closes back. This is where our green jelly feature comes into play.

By shooting at this large block, you make it open and close more slowly. In this process, of course, we can quickly pass under it and reach our goal. As you can see in the trailers, it seems that we will encounter such puzzles frequently in the game.

The point I am most curious about in the puzzle structure is how much this process will change in the later parts of the game. In other words, the world of the game is actually suitable for many different types of puzzles. But if the puzzles continue in this structure and repeat themselves constantly, I think that it will probably cause significant damage to the fluency of the game. Therefore, it will be possible to say things more clearly in the full version in terms of puzzle balance.

The world of the game is also designed in the mind of metroidvania. In other words, even in the first areas, there are locked doors and places you can reach later. In other words, we can say that as you gain new features, you will have the chance to return to these places. On the other hand, the most important detail at the discovery point is of course the chests you will find on the right and left.

Let’s come to the most important question mark in the heads. When we look at the general operation of the game, we see that a classic shooter genre is combined with a magical world. To put it bluntly, spells have come instead of bullets. Of course, they reflected this change in a good way in terms of atmosphere. On the application side, the game has important glitches.

The first of these is the tempo and the uniformity of the battles. The pace of the game drops frequently. In other words, you can neither focus entirely on action like Doom nor advance tactically like in other shooter games. At this point, the game has not been able to determine exactly which way it should go. Maybe because the part we played belongs to the first minutes, I may have sensed such reticence. I hope there is a structure that will open in the later stages.

Another point is the boss battles, which should actually be a lot of fun. Here, too, I fell into a big dilemma. Because in the middle of the part we play, there is a boss battle that is fun and you have to escape and squeeze like this. You memorize its pattern and act accordingly. This boss fight isn’t bad. But there was a bigger boss fight at the end of the demo.

This boss battle, where we have to hit the weak points, was prepared in the logic of 20 years ago. What’s more troublesome is that the playing field is so narrow that you can’t even notice the action going on in the middle. A balance needs to be struck in this regard.

In conclusion, Immortals of Aveum is a promising game, but it also has a question mark. The production team came up with very good ideas. While they were successful in some of them, they could not take the necessary action in others. While I was playing, I had fun from time to time, but I also encountered scenes that I found meaningless from time to time. As I said, if the later stages of the game are more fluid and have a structure that gets rid of the mold, the probability of encountering a fun shooter will be stronger.
