The sequel Top Gun: Maverick became the second most successful film of 2022. Today the first part of Top Gun by director Tony Scott is on TV, in which Tom Cruise performed spectacular stunts with his fighter jet 36 years ago.
Action spectacle on TV: Top Gun – you fear neither death nor the devil
After a nerve-wracking patrol flight, fighter pilot Lieutenant Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell (Cruise) is offered training at the United States Navy Fighter Weapons School, or Top Gun for short. He doesn’t always have an easy time there and especially clashes with his rival Tom ‘Iceman’ Klazanski (Val Kilmer). Maverick also faces a lot of headwind because of his reckless flying style. But that is not the reason why he is slowly starting to have doubts about the correctness of his training.
Tom Cruise is set to return in Top Gun 3
Sequels and prequels have been dominating the cinema landscape for several years now, and cult classics are also being brought out and continued. Just like the successful action film Top Gun. After 36 years, Tom Cruise got back in his fighter jet for Top Gun: Maverick. This didn’t just make the box office ring. Fans and critics were also enthusiastic and gave it a rating of on Rotten Tomatoes 96 percent positive reviews.
So it’s no surprise that the $1.46 billion film should get a third part. Action star Cruise is of course on board, but his busy schedule also causes delays in the realization. One of his big projects is Mission Impossible 8, which could finally solve the biggest mystery in the action series and will be released in cinemas next year. It’s still unclear when we’ll be able to see Top Gun 3, but it shouldn’t take another three decades. Until then, you can pass the time with the original film, which Maverick fans in particular shouldn’t miss.
