Victim of a heatstroke that could have been fatal to her, Jade, a 36-year-old American, told her story on her TikTok account. The video has been viewed over 200,000 times.
Death frightens, death intrigues because we don’t know what awaits us… hence this fascination for people who have had an imminent death experience. This is the case of Jade, a young woman from Wisconsin, a state in the Midwest of the United States. His story was picked up by the New York Post.
Fatal heatstroke
The facts took place in 2011, a very hot day. Jade was on her way to a friend’s house when she started feeling unwell. She says she felt like her body was shrinking from the heat. At that time, other symptoms appeared: nausea, dizziness, feeling of dry mouth…”That’s when I realized I was going to pass out”, remembers the American. Shortly after, she collapses on a couch.
Jade was actually the victim of heatstroke,”a life-threatening complication of overheating of the body”, explains the New York Post article. In the vast majority of cases, heatstroke is mild, but in some cases it can cause death. That’s what happened to Jade, who went into cardiac arrest. Her risk of suffering a cardiac arrest was also higher than others because she suffers from a rare heart disease.
An experience that allowed him to accept death
Jade is clinically dead since her heart has not been beating for 3 minutes. She explains what she felt during those few minutes: “I felt like my head was swelling, but my whole body was shrinking. I had never experienced anything like it before. It allowed me to accept death, because I wanted to sleep forever”. Fortunately, she was quickly transported to the hospital where doctors managed to resuscitate her with a defibrillator. After several days of hospitalization, Jade was able to return home, without sequelae, with an extraordinary experience to tell.
The boiling brain during a near death experience
If Jade and others who have been through the same thing remember accurately what they saw and felt at that time, it is because brain activity is intense during a near-death experience. This is confirmed by a study published last May. The authors of this work claim that activity in the area known as the “neural correlates of consciousness” is particularly important in the event of imminent death. “This area has been correlated with dreams, visual hallucinations in epilepsy, and altered states of consciousness in other brain studies.”say the researchers.
