The gaming industry has changed tremendously in the last 10 years. Just as I can no longer find as many quality productions as I used to, new games are not as enjoyable as before.
There are productions that have a special place among old games and whose revival we eagerly await: Command and Conquer like games. This strategy game series managed to become a phenomenon in a short time when it first met with players in 1995. Expanding the series with various sequels and expansion packs over the years, the producers have enriched the dynamics and story of the game. However, the lack of a new game in the series in recent years has disappointed many old players like me.
I Dream of a New Command and Conquer Game
Of course, the essence of this article is not to focus on the C&C series. There are many productions like it that I dream of being re-released. Tomb Raider, Uncharted or Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater It is a great disappointment not to be able to encounter a production like this, which gave me incredible pleasure at the time. Wouldn’t it be great if there was a new Command and Conquer game equipped with modern gaming technologies and graphics? However, instead of focusing on these productions, the manufacturers unfortunately offer remakes of many games that are old but not as old as the games I mentioned. I can see that we are currently facing a similar crisis that the gaming world experienced in the 90s.
The pandemic period also affected the gaming industry. Periods of staying at home for long periods of time have negatively affected the ability of game companies to produce strong games in terms of story and structure. The hasty release of many games and the disruptions experienced in the development processes have resulted in players longing for quality content. However, instead of developing games that will meet player expectations and offer deep stories and characters after the pandemic, game developers seem to focus on technology and neglect the spirit of the game. This situation raises concerns that the gaming crisis of the 90s may be repeated in a different way today.
Among the old series, the ones I have mentioned above are not the only ones that will be met with great interest if they are revived. There are so many titles that can be added. These series have the potential to offer unique gaming experiences today, as in the past. However, the modern gaming market’s focus on pure action makes it difficult to find games with a real soul. We now miss games that not only have fun mechanics, but also compelling stories and deep character development.
As I mentioned above, while the modern game concept focuses more on the realism of the production, there is a very important aspect that is overlooked. Entertainment. Advanced graphics and detailed visual effects, which are frequently encountered in today’s games, can negatively affect our experience in some cases. In particular, elements such as using too much shadow and overloading sensory information can cause difficulties in locating enemies. Although such visual details increase the realism and visual quality of the game, the fact that we do not see the in-game environment clearly reflects negatively on our experience.
In fact, many of us have an old saying: “Games are not what they used to be”. Another reason for this is the result of consumption frenzy. While the number of games is increasing rapidly, the number of bad games added to our catalogs is also rapidly increasing. In other words, satisfactory productions have a hard time emerging in this ocean of games. According to a study, the number of players per game decreased from 15 thousand to 4 thousand in 7 years. This is very important data so that we can see how many products are produced. This means more producers and more productions, which reduces our chances of finding the kind of productions we miss.
In order for the gaming world to return to its former glory, it seems like a very useful solution for the producers to revive old and unforgettable game series. At the same time, more emphasis should be placed on producing story and character-oriented games, overcoming the difficulties brought by the pandemic period. This approach will both satisfy old players and improve the overall quality of the gaming industry by introducing new generation players to these legendary games.
