“I’m not afraid of it!”

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Frida Karlsson is being chased by several Norwegians.
Now she sends a greeting to the rivals.
– I’m not afraid, she says.

Finally for Frida Karlsson. On Tuesday, the Swede was completely superior in the 10 kilometer race in Oberstdorf, and she won her first stage victory in the Tour de Ski, a full 18 seconds ahead of second-placed Anne Kjersti Kalvå, and 20 seconds ahead of third-placed Tiril Udnes Weng.

“I am not afraid”

The victory came after a few days where Karlsson was heavily criticized in Finland for having incorrect tactical plans during her races, but she gave the best possible answer to all the critics. And now it will be raffling in the Tour’s continuation and conclusion. On Wednesday, the chase starts – where Karlsson goes out a full 20 seconds ahead of a Norwegian duo, in the form of Kalvå and Udnes Weng.

Frida Karlsson is the only Swede who is at the top, but there are five Norwegians in the top ten list. This allows the Norwegians to work together, and via tactics, to catch up and win over Karlsson. But the Swede doesn’t care – and instead sends a sharp pass.

– I am not afraid of Norwegian tactical driving. I am strong alone. They can work together, but they have to work hard for it, she says to the Norwegian Dagbladet.

The Norwegians’ answer

However, Frida Karlsson’s Norwegian rivals do not seem frightened by Karlsson’s greeting. Instead, they smile at the outcome.

– We are many, she is one. It is an advantage for us. She is full of confidence after winning, but we have to try to turn it around tomorrow. Frida is strong, so we have to take her together, says Kalvå.

Tiril Udnes Weng was surprised that the distance to Karlsson was only 20 seconds, but is now looking forward to a chase.

– She has self-confidence now. It’s not just catching up with her. She is good at riding alone at the top, and is good enough to keep the speed. We can’t drive around and sleep in the back, she says.
