MeinMMO editor Maik Schneider generally welcomes the development of Call of Duty in terms of gameplay changes. But he misses one thing, because it brought a special dynamic to Warzone. And he felt a little like the pro next door.
Call of Duty has been searching for its own identity for years, but slowly the largest shooter franchise in the world manages to sharpen its profile.
You want to be more accessible – or to put it crudely – the game should be easier. In Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 you have taken on a lot for this. Not only in terms of gameplay, but also with regard to veterans who do not like this development as much.
Here are just a few examples of measures:
I support that. A shovel more content, a handful fewer bugs and the current generation of CoD games would already be among my favorites.
However, I have to admit that there is a little trick that I really miss. And that, although the action made my controllers suffer and my fingers hurt: the slide cancel.
Season 2 starts on February 15th with a new map for Warzone 2. Check out the trailer here:
Slide cancel was my little pro kick
Actually, this “movement trick” was a glitch. Whether you want it or not – for more than 3 years it was practically good manners to jump over the Warzone maps like a street fighter fighter with his slide kick.
What is Slide-Cancel and Why Do Fingers Hurt?
With this action you could cancel/cancel the slide in CoD MW 2019 and Warzone 1 with a key combination – Slide-Cancel. This allowed resetting the tactical sprint, which was faster than the normal sprint.
However, you were constantly pressing buttons and had to make entries fairly quickly one after the other. That went on the paws. This is what it looked like:
This kept your own hitboxes moving and you could even get a little extra tempo out of it if done correctly. But it wasn’t just the gameplay benefits, it was the feel of it.
Everything felt faster. Even on the console with the blinkered “Field of View” I thundered through Verdansk like a young athlete. On Caldera I would have compared myself to a tourist who underestimates how hot the beach can get and overestimates how well 3 euros hold up slippers.
There was also the certainty that one or the other player could be intimidated or impressed with it. “Oh, look at him, he’s doing this trick … we don’t stand a chance!”.
Come on! Come here, I’m ready! Even though it seems like I can’t decide if it’s bedtime or we’re still fighting kills on the couch.
You can love, hate or just ignore the slide cancel – some even complained about “risk of injury”. For me, he made up a lot of the CoD gameplay of the last few years.
In Warzone 2, the trick was replaced a bit by the dolphin dive. Again, you get a sense of the pace as you slide chin-first through the sand with a bang. But it’s different, not the real thing.
I don’t miss the aching fingers after a long evening of hunting. But when it comes to the slide cancel, I get a little nostalgic.
After all, the real professionals already know how to close this gap: CoD MW2: “Slide-Canceling” was yesterday – “Snaking” is the new movement trick of the professionals
