Starfield: There is no shitstorm, but criticism is everywhere

What is the first impression? When researching the various social media, it was noticeable that the mood around Starfield is positive. Most of the biggest points of criticism were already known in advance from the gameplay leaks and these are still being criticized:

  • Spaceship gameplay is underwhelming
  • Game speed is too low
  • Some technical flaws have been added, but not nearly as bad as some other Bethesda titles. But bugs and glitches are part of it. The issue of the missing “Field of View” setting and that there is no map in cities is currently bigger.

Apart from that, the first player reactions are hopeful. There are many comments where you can read the bright eyes, people are just happy.

The performance on PC and Xbox Series in particular is often praised, Starfield runs smoothly. But the feeling of freedom that is so typical of Bethesda games also makes fans of the studio smile.

According to initial reactions, your expectations will likely determine what you think of Starfield.

Because the RPG does not reinvent the Bethesda wheel, but packs it in a fresh setting. If you were expecting the great revolution of the well-tried Fallout and Elder Scrolls formula, then you will be disappointed.

What are players saying about Starfield? The range is wide, as is so often the case with such mega releases. There are players who are smitten from the first few hours, showing off their goosebumps and spreading good cheer after the Early Access launch:

Comparisons with previous Bethesda titles often refer to Fallout 4. A similar verdict can also be found in the test by GameStar colleagues.

However, the critics are not silent either. However, there isn’t much outcry about how bad Starfield is. Here and there some players accuse the developers of having promised too much and that is demonstrably true. But the criticism is often selective and affects certain areas of the game:

Conclusion: According to the first reactions, Starfield can live up to the expectations of many players, but in the run-up it sold a little beyond its means. Anyone who doesn’t expect a revolution and is looking for a “Skyrim in space” will obviously get their money’s worth.

However, keep in mind that this is an assessment of the first few hours in the game. The next few days will have to show whether the wind will still turn in one direction or the other.

Starfield has been highly anticipated and is finally in Early Access. Have you already looked into the game or watched some videos? What is your first impression? Write a comment on the topic.
