There is now a new survival mode in Fortnite that was created in cooperation with LEGO – and even MeinMMO editor Dariusz Müller is having fun with it.
With LEGO Fortnite, Epic Games has now officially declared war on games like Minecraft and Terraria. I’m not a fan of Fortnite myself and I’m even known in the editorial team as the shooter nerd who doesn’t like Battle Royale. That almost sounds paradoxical, but I really just don’t enjoy the subgenre.
For me, Fortnite is even more difficult than other Battle Royale shooters, even if I’m just referring to the gameplay. The third-person perspective and art style just never convinced me. Valorant, a similarly colorful shooter, is currently my favorite game.
Yes, the big events that take place regularly are somehow impressive. Still, I’ve never enjoyed Fortnite for a single minute in my life – until LEGO mode came along.

Survival game with a LEGO look
LEGO Fortnite relies on classic survival game mechanics. We spawn, farm wood and rock, build a house, bed and workbench and take care of obtaining food. Then we build more and more different buildings, machines and objects, upgrade our equipment, explore the map and try to survive somehow. But LEGO Fortnite has a very big point of differentiation and it is already in the title of the game: LEGO.
The LEGO Fortnite game world consists of the small, colorful toy building blocks that most of you know from your childhood. The parents among you have probably already stepped on a stone or two.
The collaboration with LEGO has the advantage that it looks at least visually suitable for children and at the same time awakens nostalgic feelings in many young people and adults. After all, who didn’t enjoy playing with blocks as a child? Whether directly from LEGO or alternative manufacturers such as CaDA or Unico.
LEGO Fortnite therefore doesn’t seem like a run-of-the-mill survival game in Fortnite, but is THE opportunity to finally play with LEGO again.
Solid quality, but expandable
If you have the opportunity to play LEGO Fortnite and like Minecraft, then give it a try – especially if you have Fortnite installed anyway. It’s a really solid survival game that can be quite entertaining and fun.
In my opinion, LEGO Fortnite does everything right when it comes to the basic gameplay. The game tends to compromise on the little things that survival players are used to from other titles. For example, the tools wear out very quickly and you can only repair them at the workbench, not in your own inventory. That’s annoying, but not bad.
I’m still anything but a fan of the Fortnite shop and this type of financing model, but this is a well-known topic and that won’t change in the near future – neither in Fortnite nor in other games.
I can’t yet estimate how long I’ll enjoy it, but for now I definitely plan on spending a few more hours in the game and building a little city with LEGO bricks.
