“I’m ashamed! I’m losing my head”

Mona Brorsson has had a hard time during the Biathlon World Cup.
Her embarrassing miss doesn’t make it any easier either.
– I am ashamed! I’m losing my head, she says to SVT.

Before the Biathlon World Cup had Mona Brorsson high expectations and felt in the best shape of his life. But the first two races have not been at all what the 33-year-old wanted.

In Friday’s WC sprint, she came in a modest 38th place and therefore it was a very tough starting position in Sunday’s pursuit start. It then got even worse when Brorsson had a complete brain meltdown and offered a very fatal blunder in the tracks.

Mona shot a total of four misses in the start of the chase, but still rode five laps in the penalty round. Unfortunately, she happened to take an extra lap completely unnecessarily and is now forced to apologize.
– I am ashamed! It’s embarrassing that it’s happening in my tenth championship. I have quite a lot of routine. It’s quite boring, she told the Swedish media after the race.

Mona’s apology

Mona Brorsson then finished in a weak 39th place in the second WC race in Nove Mesto, a full five minutes behind the winner Julia Simon.
– I lost myself, she says to SVT and explains what went wrong.
– I’m losing my head. All of a sudden I think: “How many have I ridden?” – then I took another one just to be safe.

During the race itself, Swedish biathletes had no idea of their huge mistake. It was only after the finish line that she had it told to her.
– Of course it’s a shame. It’s not good for her. It will be 22-23 seconds that she loses. She probably loses a little focus there. There are a lot of people and such in the penalty round, but that shouldn’t happen, says the national team manager John Luke to the TV channel.

So far, Sweden has not won a single individual medal during the Biathlon World Cup 2024.
