“I’m afraid that she…”

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Elvira Öberg’s crisis continues.
Now comes a move from Norway.
– She should just finish the season, says expert Synneöve Solemdal.

Elvira Öberg was for a long time the big exclamation point of the winter in biathlon. The Swede had a giant breakthrough last winter and continued to dominate in the World Cup next to the WC. But then came the disease that destroyed just about everything.

Norwegian performance

Öberg had her WC ruined by the cold she contracted, and she hasn’t been able to recover since then. Elvira Öberg has told us that the body did not respond as she wished after the cold, and the result line has been devastating. She has finished 63rd, 20th and 27th – and on Sunday she was a full three minutes behind the winner Dorothea Wierer.

In Norway, they react sharply to Elvira Öberg’s weak form, and experts now say that she should just finish the season, and instead focus on finding her form for next season.

– She is so young so it would have been better for her to rest, says NRK expert Synnöve Solemdal, and continues:

– She should finish the season.

“She shouldn’t be here”

Synnöve Solemdal believes that Elvira Öberg risks ruining herself significantly more if she continues to compete even though neither form nor body is there at the moment.

– You can see that she is not in shape and when she has been sick so much, I am afraid that she will break herself down. She is so young so it would have been better to just end the season now, and rest to be healthy and fit for next season, she says.

Ola Lunde, also an expert on Norwegian NRK, agrees.

– I don’t think she should have competed this weekend. When she competes here, it can get even worse, then she has to take it easy for a long period to get her body in shape for the new season, he says.
