The runner’s suitcases were on holiday as he practiced at the southern tip of Africa. The Finnish record of PM halls is a great start for the season.
Ilona Mononen Today, he opened his hall season with a fine record run at the women’s 3,000 meters in the PM in Espoo. Mononen’s time of 8.56.61 is also new for under-22s on the hall tracks.
– I knew that the bottom was tough. Super good thing that had got a hare here. Maybe I would have liked a little harder. At some point I went to punch at that momentum, says Monone’s run to Sports.
Mononen improved his record by almost eight seconds, but was third in the race. The race was won by Denmark Josephine Thestrup With a time of 8.53.52.
– In the end there were a couple of sharper women, but to open the season, I’m really happy.
At the South African camp, suitcases were lost
A couple of weeks ago, Mononen settled in Dullstroom from South Africa’s training camp.
Mountain training is perfect for her.
– I wouldn’t go there if there was no positive response. When I get to the sea level, I feel that the oxygen goes and the run is strong, says the runner benefits of mountain training.
But on the trip often hurts and happens. Mononen’s suitcases ran away and vacationing for a few weeks.
– For the first two weeks of the four -week camp, they lived without any workout or clothing. So the minimalist way of life has been experienced. Had to apply a few things, he laughs.
It is only last season that the young runner, who has taken the mainstream of the obstacle run, runs with very good obstacle technology and has not practiced the obstacle over the obstacle.
– After the last obstacle race of the season, I have not touched the obstacles. It comes quite naturally.
If you already have good obstacle technology, then it is useless for the runner to expose the legs to a hard impact that always follows the obstacle.
– When spring comes from this, then those obstacles are attracted and I do a few workouts with the authentic.
At the club level, Mononen represents Lahti diligent and practices young malers in a group with fifteen runners.
He often runs training bets with the male runners of the group and gets a good help.
– Mikko Rajaniemi There are a few promising boys in coaching, a little younger than me. When you apply a little more speed, I get a company for almost every workout, says Mononen.
The direct score of the World Cup is much harder than it
When he was younger, Mononen practiced football and started a variety of athletics as a primary school age. He even had time to try the ball.
– And that ball pushing was not just an experiment. I have a championship in the PM four match and one of the kind was a ball pushing. Yes, I have a versatile species background.
Fortunately, Mononen ended up in endurance running.
– I agree, says Mononen.
Lahti won the European Youth Championship in 2021 in a smooth 3,000 meters. He ran the first 3,000 -meter barrier competition in his life in late 2023.
Last season, Mononen took the obstacles to the main sport and immediately improved his record by half a minute in the opening race. After that, the results began to come as if by twisting water from the faucet. The obstacle record improved well over a minute last season.
Last summer, Mononen explored almost sensationally to the European Championships, where he ran sixth in the new SE-time in the obstacle final. In addition, he also joined the Paris Olympics, where he ran the new SE 9.22,77 in the early stages, but was eliminated.
In the autumn, bronze was still coming off in the Under-23 European Championships.
During this hall, Mononen has no goals in international value races.
– I have a pretty short season. Next week I’m going to Castellon (Spain) to run a road dock. I’m really excited about it because it is that aerobic is quite strong at the moment.
-After that, there are still SM halls in Kuortane, ie a short and succinct hall season.
Next summer, Mononen is aiming for the Tokyo World Championships on his main trip in obstacles.
– It’s definitely the main goal.
The direct performance limit to the World Cup is 9.18.00 in women’s obstacle and would require a fair improvement in Finnish record. But through the ranking, the road to Tokyo is probably easier. 36 runners are included.
