The trees were removed during preparatory work for the Nieuw Buurland new construction project. There are now vacant flats on Nolenslaan, which are being demolished to make way for 280 new homes. A permit had previously been applied for to fell the trees, but that application had been withdrawn. Later a permit would be applied for to cut them down.
