Ikea has agreed to pay out a total of SEK 250 million to customers in the US who were affected by an alleged receipt error. It should be that the receipts happened to reveal more than the last five digits of the card number, reports NBCChicago.
Ikea has made the decision to pay after a so-called “class-action lawsuit” was filed against the company. According to NBC Chicago, it appears in the court documents that Ikea “vigorously denies” both responsibility and fault after the lawsuit against the furniture giant.
Exactly how much money each customer will receive is unclear, as the amount is set based on how many will have a portion of the sum. The law firm handling the case estimates that it will be somewhere between 300 and 600 kroner per person.
Then customers can receive compensation
To be entitled to the money, you as a customer must be able to show a receipt sometime between October 18, 2017 and December 31, 2019.
“If you do not act, you will not receive any payment and you give up the right to pursue or continue to pursue claims against Ikea or any other defendant,” writes the law firm that is pursuing the case on a website dedicated to the process.
However, those who get the biggest payout seem to be the lawyers themselves, who according to the website will take SEK 102 million, about 40 percent of the money, just in fees.
